On the way to my new domain www.colblindor.com as a first step I did an upgrade of my WordPress installation. And to my relief the upgrade worked without a problem in short time.
I followed the steps as described by the WordPress guys:
- Database backup. I used the plugin to make a backup and did also export the whole database as an SQL-file.
- File backup. Download of the whole weblog directory through FTP.
- Delete old installation. Delete all and hope for the best. But with the backups you are on the save side.
- Installation of WordPress 2.1.1. Upload through FTP of all the files. Easy and simple.
- /wp-admin/upgrade.php. This call upgrades the installation or better said the database to the new version.
- Upload/activate plugins. Because some plugins are needed to get no errors on the blog, I uploaded and activated them.
- Upload images. As the last step you have to upload the images, which are saved in the file structure. I just took them from the file backup.
That’s it, that’s all and it worked. I thought this could take quite a while but it was done in only about half an hour. The developers deserve a big “Thank you.”
